Who We Are

We are lawyers, policy experts, and investigators dedicated to helping ordinary people stand up to monopolistic corporations and their abuses of power in rural America.

  • Basel is an antitrust and trade regulation attorney with a passion for building stronger towns and vibrant rural economies.

    Basel's experience includes representing farmers in litigation against meat processors under the Packers and Stockyards Act, defending workers against employers who seek to enforce illegal noncompete agreements, and advocating for the interests of farmers, small businesses, workers and consumers before the Federal Trade Commission, the Department of Justice Antitrust Division, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

    Basel is also the author of the landmark report on the state of competition in America's agriculture system, "Kings Over the Necessaries of Life": Monopolization and the Elimination of Competition in America's Agriculture System, which was commissioned and published by Farm Action in 2024.

    Basel has been featured in or on Reuters, AP, Time Magazine, CNBC, The Today Show, Politico, The American Prospect, DTN-PF, Daily Yonder, and other media outlets. He also regularly participates in panels and conferences related to his work. For example, Basel recently joined a panel on rural entrepreneurial ecosystems at the 2022 Radically Rural Conference in Keene, NH, and a panel on the Right to Repair at the 2023 ABA Antitrust Section's Annual Spring Meeting in Washington, DC.

Managing Attorney

  • Anu is a staff attorney with Antimonopoly Counsel. She previously worked as an Assistant Attorney General with the Wisconsin Department of Justice's Civil Litigation Unit, where she defended state agencies and employees against tort, constitutional, commercial, and employment claims. Prior to that, she clerked for Judge Jennifer Kinsley at Ohio's First District Court of Appeals and Magistrate Judge Alice R. Senechal at the District of North Dakota. She also spent some time in private practice doing commercial litigation defense. She is a graduate of Loyola University Chicago School of Law.

Staff Attorney

  • Domenic is a staff attorney with Antimonopoly Counsel. He has worked as an attorney with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau covering a broad spectrum of regulatory, enforcement, and policy matters in consumer financial markets. He also has extensive policy experience, including working on antitrust legislation and investigations with the House Judiciary Committee under Representative Jerrold Nadler, and as an immigration policy strategist with the American Civil Liberties Union. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School.
